Episode 3: L’Chevy Tova!
This week’s task was to organize a corporate retreat for some of the top dealer/owners of General Motors dealerships. The centerpiece of the retreat was the unveiling of the 2007 Chevy Tahoe. The team that received the best evaluation would win.
Dan and Lee informed their team that they would be absent from the two-day task, as they would be observing Rosh Hashanah. Their teammates basically took the news in stride, except Lenny, a Russian Jew and the only other Jew on the team.
"This is stupid," Lenny told them, "You’re using this just for an excuse not to work."
Lenny went on to say that the Israeli army fights on Sabbath and holidays "even though they’re not supposed to."
When Trump met with the teams the next morning to introduce the task, he commented on Dan’s and Lee’s absence: "That’s life. George [my right hand man] is out today for the holiday too."
Team mate Bryce was disappointed that Dan and Lee would be away. "It’s going to be tough not having these two minds on this task," he said.
Perhaps Bryce’s fears were realized. Ultimately, the team lost due to a lack of creative direction and a few other pitfalls they experienced along the way.
The Rosh Hashanah absence was not blamed for the loss (except by Lenny) and neither Dan nor Lee were called to the boardroom.
A lesson Daniel learned from Episode 3:
"When you are strong in your beliefs, you are going to butt heads with people. But these conflicts present an opportunity to test your beliefs. You can say you are steadfast in your principles, but until they are tested, you really never know."
What we’re looking for in future episodes:
We still look forward to seeing Brody have his chance to shine on an upcoming task as Project Manager. And if Rosh Hashanah presented an issue for the team, we can’t wait to see how they respond to Yom Kippur and Sukkot.
