Adam Silver Wins State Free Throw Tournament
Last month Adam Silver, a student at Donna Klein Jewish Academy in Boca Raton, won the Elks Florida State Hoop Shoot Tournament at The Florida Elks Youth Camp. But Silver didn’t just sink 22 of 25 free throws like the future Miami Heat star he hopes to someday be. He also will receive the Champion of Champions Trophy to be presented at Disney World on Memorial Day Weekend during the 101st Annual Florida Elks Convention.
Adam went on to the South East Regional National Tournament going against the winners from Alabama, South Carolina, Georgia and Mississippi. The National Finals Tournament will take place April 21 in Springfield, Mass. With over 3 million participants nationwide the Hoop Shoot National Tournament is believed to positively affect countless American families.
"I think it has the kind of positive influence that can single handedly bring fathers and mothers closer to their kids," says Silver.
Silver plays on his middle and high school basketball teams (even though he is only 13 years old), is a cross-country runner and helps his dad who coaches in the West Boca Basketball League and serves as its Division Coordinator. He has been given the nickname of "Little Nash" for the similar style of play of Steve Nash and his obvious prowess on the free throw line. Silver has achieved the Presidential Fitness Award every year it has been given.
Academically, Silver is a straight A student at Donna Klein Jewish Academy and has made both Honor Board and Honor Roll. He will soon be representing his school in the Florida State Math Championship as part of their elite Math Team.
